Sell The Damn Thing

Have you ever heard of the movie Failure To Launch? Pretty bad one if you ask me, never really found that Matthew McConaughey to be much of an actor, although he sure lives the lifestyle.

Anyway, the movie was about the epidemic that the movie made up to me of young male adults not taking the steps to get their shit together and move on - out of mommy and daddys house.

There is a similarity to how many of us operate our business in the fact that we are so damn passive about making the sale - no matter what it is, no matter what we sell.

I am a pharmacist and coach a bunch of pharmacists in the retail environment. What happens is we talk about 'what we think' would be good for the customer and 'we think it would be in their best interest to buy it', etc etc, without pretty much saying, "hey, here is your problem, and I truly believe this is the best way that you can fix it, so you should buy this." ----that is exactly what needs to be said.

Look at it this way - if you are selling a product or a service which you believe is the ultimate better for your clients than why hide it from them, they want you to let them know, they want you to solve their pains.

No matter what business you are in, your job is to sell. Whether it is to sell a person on a new proposal, sell a wellness service to a patient, a bottle of vitamins to a client or sell yourself to a hope to be soon fiance...we are always selling, and by dropping the resistance factors, and learning the basics of influence and communication - your world will be a different world.

For this reason you have to check out a really kick but book by Chet Holmes, The Ultimate Sales Machine I heard this guy on an interview he is the real deal, this with the Power of Influence by Robert Cialdini you cannot go wrong.

Frustrated Pharmacist Turns To Mobile Technology To Clear The Confusion On Bio-Identical Hormones

It’s no secret; we are fast becoming a mobilized world with the advents of technology leaning towards smart phones and what are known as ‘apps’. ‘Apps’ are short for ‘application’s’ and they act as mini websites or information portals for quick access on the face of one’s phone. Apps come in the form of video games to reference databases and newsfeeds. Many say this mobile platform is the new marketing frontier, providing additional real estate to get information out to prospects and customers. In fact, numbers show that at the end of 2009, there were some 4.1 billion cell phones in regular use around the world, while (only) 2.1 billion people regularly going online.

An independent pharmacist who specializes in nutrition and what is known as bio-identical hormone replacement therapy is turning to the App World to be able to provide his customers and fellow practitioners information that is not readily practiced or accessible in the allopathic medical community.

In response to an article on the L.A Times website on July 12, 2010, explaining how many health care professionals are warning the public and purchasers of these app’s that the information might not be reliable while health related apps are growing by leaps and bounds, Kress says, “That is why in our iHormones app we provide not only credible resources for people to turn to, but provide a reference area that backs to information which we provide. We are sharing real science.”

Robert’s App iHormones can be found in the Apple Application Store, along with other app’s he has created with his wife Amy, such as “Vitamins Rx”, “Find a Compounding Pharmacy”, “Natural Menopause” and more to come. Robert say’s he has decided to focus on the apple operating systems for the present time because apple has shown a larger, app friendly customer base.

Yes, Mobile Marketing Platforms Will Be Part of The Marketing Norm In A Very Short Time

Mobile Searches Account for 10% of Google Queries

Mark Mahney, a Citi analyst, said in a research note released this week, mobile searches account for an estimated 10% of Google queries; the note was based on comScore’s July qSearch analysis. Mahney commented on the popularity of mobile queries, saying they are “growing very rapidly for Google perhaps triple-digit year-over-year growth.”

From the research service Internet2Go, analyst Greg Sterling put the numbers into layman’s terms. He explains, "Ten percent of 10,292,000,000 monthly queries is 1,292,000,000 or more than 1 billion monthly search queries coming from mobile devices in the U.S. alone.” According to Sterling, Google made just over $2 billion in Q1 2010 from search in the U.S. on Google.com; this is out of a total revenue of $6.7 billion. If there is the assumption that Google makes the same amount on every query, 10% of the Q1 search revenue would add up to just over $200 million. In actuality, Google does not make the same amount on each query, and with fewer ads in mobile (although there are higher response rates), Sterling estimates the actual revenue stream would be less than $200 million.

While these are just estimated calculations based on 10%, Sterling admits that “It's not crazy to suggest that mobile could be a billion-dollar revenue stream for Google within five years."

3 Tips To Increase Productivity and Save Time

'Time management", productivity, over commitment and too much
stress seem to be the plaques of today, so I want to share with
you some tips to help immunize yourself against these epidemics.

1. Don't Multi-Task

I know what you are going to say- "yeah right, easier
said than done."

See what you can do. Think about it. I am sure it will
take some advanced planning.

Although, one way to dramatically stress yourself out and
exhaust your stores of energy is by multi-tasking. If you can,
or even coach your employees to focus on one task at a time,
productivity will rise tremendously.

There was actually a study a few years back in the UK that
showed multi-tasking can lower your IQ more than smoking
pot!

2. Cure Yourself of electronic OCD

Electronic Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a major time
stealer. From people checking their emails all thorough out the
day, loggin into facebook and other sites, and all now can easily
be done from our smart phones...this is a major habit that needs
to be broken.

And if you are thinking, "well I only check in real quick, only takes
me a minute, the thing is that when ever you break pattern from
what you are currently doing, it can take as much as 20 minutes
to get back to where you left off effectively.

Try this- allow yourself only once or twice a day, put time aside
for this time to check in on emails or your social sites. And give
yourself a time frame and stick to it.

If you are a business owner, unless these sources are used
for business, I would seriously consider blocking them.

3. Limit How and When You Answer Your Phone

Constant interruptions do more to prevent tasks and projects
from being completed. Where cell phones might be a great
convenience, they keep you logged into someone else's agenda,
and not your own if you let them.

Allow the messages to build and check in on pre-scheduled times
within the day.

And remember the employee factor- - it is not the time and place for
them to be answering private cell phone calls on your time.

IOCOCCA SPEAKS OUT ON OBAMA

Just as true today as it was when his book first came out. He was and still is, a brilliant businessman!
Often we need to be reminded of Iococca’s words.

Remember Lee Iacocca, the man who rescued Chrysler Corporation from its death throes? He’s now 82 years old and has a new book, ‘Where Have All The Leaders Gone?’.

Lee Iacocca Says:

‘Am I the only guy in this country who’s fed up with what’s happening? Where the hell is our outrage with this so called president? We should be screaming bloody murder! We’ve got a gang of tax cheating clueless leftists trying to steer our ship of state right over a cliff, we’ve got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can’t even run a ridiculous cash-for-clunkers program without losing $26 billion of the taxpayers’ money, much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, ‘trust me the economy is getting better..’

Better? You’ve got to be kidding. This is America , not the damned, ‘Titanic’. I’ll give you a sound bite: ‘Throw all the Democrats out along with Obama!’

And the liberal press is waving ‘pom-poms’ instead of asking hard questions. That’s not the promise of the ‘ America ‘ my parents and yours traveled across the ocean for. I’ve had enough. How about you?

I’ll go a step further. You can’t call yourself a patriot if you’re not outraged. This is a fight I’m ready and willing to have. The Biggest ‘C’ is Crisis! (Iacocca elaborates on nine C’s of leadership, with crisis being the first.)

Leaders are made, not born. Leadership is forged in times of crisis. It’s easy to sit there with thumb up your butt and talk theory. Or send someone else’s kids off to war when you’ve never seen a battlefield yourself. It’s another thing to lead when your world comes tumbling down.

On September 11, 2001, we needed a strong leader more than any other time in our history. We needed a steady hand to guide us out of the ashes. A hell of a mess, so here’s where we stand.

We’re immersed in a bloody war now with no plan for winning and no plan for leaving. But our soldiers are dying daily.

We’re running the biggest deficit in the history of the world, and it’s getting worse every day!

We’ve lost the manufacturing edge to Asia , while our once-great companies are getting slaughtered by health care costs.

Gas prices are going to skyrocket again, and nobody in power has a lucid plan to open drilling to solve the problem. This country has the largest oil reserves in the WORLD, and we cannot drill for it because the politicians have been bought by the flea-hugging environmentalists.

Our schools are in a complete disaster because of the teachers union.

Our borders are like sieves and they want to give all illegals amnesty and free healthcare.

The middle class is being squeezed to death every day.

These are times that cry out for leadership.

But when you look around, you’ve got to ask: ‘Where have all the leaders gone?’ Where are the curious, creative communicators? Where are the people of character, courage, conviction, omnipotence, and common sense? I may be a sucker for alliteration, but I think you get the point.

Name me a leader who has a better idea for homeland security than making us take off our shoes in airports and throw away our shampoo?

We’ve spent billions of dollars building a huge new bureaucracy, and all we know how to do is react to things that have already happened.

Everyone’s hunkering down, fingers crossed, hoping the government will make it better for them. Now, that’s just crazy.. Deal with life.

Name me an industry leader who is thinking creatively about how we can restore our competitive edge in manufacturing. Who would have believed that there could ever be a time when ‘The Big Three’ referred to Japanese car companies? How did this happen, and more important, look what Obama did about it!

Name me a government leader who can articulate a plan for paying down the debt, or solving the energy crisis, or managing the health care problem. The silence is deafening. But these are the crises that are eating away at our country and milking the middle class dry.

I have news for the Chicago gangsters in Congress. We didn’t elect you to turn this country into a losing European Socialist state. What is everybody so afraid of? That some bonehead on NBC or CNN news will call them a name? Give me a break. Why don’t you guys show some spine for a change?

Had Enough? Hey, I’m not trying to be the voice of gloom and doom here. I’m trying to light a fire. I’m speaking out because I have hope - I believe in America . In my lifetime, I’ve had the privilege of living through some of America ’s greatest moments. I’ve also experienced some of our worst crises: The ‘Great Depression,’ ‘World War II,’ the ‘Korean War,’ the ‘Kennedy Assassination,’ the ‘Vietnam War,’ the 1970’s oil crisis, and the struggles of recent years since 9/11.

Why You Need To Be Online (at the VERY least)

Ok, whether baseball is your game or not, I am a tried an true philladelphia fan; meaning when they are doing good, I am on board, when they are not, I find a new hobby.

I was just reading an article on trade rumors of the outfielder Jason Werth, and it was quoted

"What rumors?" Werth asked before Friday's game. "I haven't really heard anything. I don't read those sites."

You see what he said? "I don't read those sites." THOSE SITES. NOT THOSE PAPERS. Our culture is changing faster than most can grasp, its a game of playing catch-up unless one pays attention.

Soon it will be 'THOSE APPS'

It's crazy, only 10 years ago in the movie 'You Got Mail' it was all about the big mega book store taking over the small mom and pop book store. Now that blockbusters and hollywood videos are falling by the way side, I am willing to bet within the next decade even the big bookstores will be gone...Virgin, and the rest.

So here is the take home...KEEP UP. I can guarantee at least the corner clones are, and the thing is, you can do it better.

A few weeks ago I caught an episode of the dog, bounty hunter…and usually when its on its winter time and it helps me escape a bit looking at Hawaii in the middle of a MI winter…even if they are usually busting crack addicts and pimps in the ‘not so pretty’ areas of Hawaii. You know the neighborhoods that don’t make it to the travel brochures.

Well last night they were after a drug dealer named Buttons. Now Buttons was not just any old meth dealer/addict, Buttons was actually Hawaiian surfing royalty…and well known and highly respected locally and worldwide for what he did to shape the sport of surfing; creating moves inspired by skateboarding in the ’70’s, with tricks like his 360 degree board slide, this deservingly earned him the title of “The Father of Modern Day Surfing”.

As the story rolled out, his surfing royalty title was well known, and the dog and his crew in their somewhat overly dramatic fashion brandishing over-sized badges and mace grenades, found Buttons and busted him.

And here’s the thing…the dog and his wife have walked in such shoes. They have had drug and criminal backgrounds, so you can say they have “walked the walk” in others shoes (or flip flops). If you have ever seen the show, whether its the reality nature or cleaver editing, the dog and other bounty hunters show an incredible amount of empathy and understanding.

To the point where you really believe their ‘understanding’ is just what the individual needs at that time to look to cure their life.

Fortunately for Buttons, after almost decades of drug abuse, he is clean again. Running his own surf school on the North Shore and doing what he loves…clean.

Was this because of the empathy that dog and his gang shared? Maybe not, but I can guarantee that Buttons will never forget about the incident and everyone involved.

What I am trying to get across is that every person walking on this earth has a pain. As pharmacists and in health care we see people with a lot of different types of pain; depression, physical pain, stress, past life experiences affecting them today, financial hardships…fact is its out there.

And I am not saying you have to be over sympathetic…after all I am a firm believer of personal responsibility…but to empathize in understanding where they are, letting them know “it’s ok”, whether its in your marketing materials or how you communicate with your clients…its not only the right thing, but a very powerful thing for bonding and trust.

Are You Doing Video For Your Marketing?

Video is one of the most effective tools which you can easily implement into your marketing.

As you have probably see, I utilize it a lot for many reasons:

-It helps to provide personality and connection with your prospects and clients
-It's super easy, all you have to do is point and shoot...writing an outline for a script is a lot easier than writing a complete article that has to be edited and grammatically correct.
-It connects with people who are more visually oriented
-Search engines love it as well

Often someone might wonder..."where do I start?" "Do I need to invest a lot of time and money?" People often feel it is overwhelming.

It's actually quite easy - and very reasonable.

Here is what you need.

1. A camera

If I was to get started today, I would grab my new favorite camera, the kodak zi8

Why do I love it?

It is as simple as a flip (my first favorite) and this has an external microphone jack, so you can assure audio quality. All you have to do is plug it into your computer and instant upload. I do still like the flip, although this Zi8 is as simple, with some more benefits, and I believe cheaper.

2. A video hosting account with an online source.

There are a lot of them out there, although I feel youtube is your best bet. Super easy to use, whatever camera you get such as the zi8 or the flip will have software to allow you to easily upload your video to your youtube account.

Your video's will have to be less than 10 minutes though, which is probably good, because unless you are offering training or courses, you might bore your viewer. (and if you need hosting for longer video's check out amazon.com's video hosting program)

Other than that, maybe a tripod and a microphone if you wish (not needed)

So in your pharmacy how can you use this?

-Provide a weekly news report.
-Let your customer know whats new and great going on in your business and how it benefits them.

And it all is seamlessly integrated into social media like face book, which makes you stand out above the rest even more. Think about it, as you are paging down your face book page, doesn't the videos stand out more?

So get started today, experiment with video, you'll love it and so will your customers.

Do You Have A 100% Retention Rate?

Sound like a crazy question? What if I was to tell you that there is a billion dollar company that is prettry darn close? What would this do for your business?

Thats right!…Disney! it turns out that research shows that almost everyone who visits once…goes back again. Pretty amazing right?

The other day a new marketing client of mine who seems to be doing very well, just wants to do even better, made this comment about his practice, and I have to say, it is very astute and one of the biggest areas that most business owners totally ignore in their marketing. He mentioned, “If everyone who has been a customer here in the last 5 years was to remain a customer, I would not have to worry about anything at all.”

Brilliant, and basic. You see, most business owners (including pharmacists’) have the mindset “new customers, new customers, I have to get new customers”, without taking care of the ones they already have, thinking, “there is no way they would ever stray”

If you want a reality check…run your numbers, see who has lost thier way. Is your sales growth in line with new customer growth? Or is it higher as it should be, by keeping old customers and selling more, more often to them? What we find is a leaky bucket effect. People spend all their time, money and efforts getting new customers in the door, which acts as a replacement, maybe a little better, for the customers or products or services drop off.

This is why in as part of my Core Marketing Formula, we focus heavily on your current customers through the power of the printed newsletter as well as email and other channels of marketing. These are the people who have already opened their wallets to us are ever so more valuable.

First of all, they are at least 5 times easier and cheaper to market to.

Will they forget about you because you have not reminded them that you exist after that initial relationship, no matter how great, or not so great it might have been…or after for some reason they have tried the competitor, and you did nothing to real them back in, will they ever even think about you?

This is why I have always said that our business is a consumer driven business. Yes it is really important to get in the head of the doc’s, remind them of what you can do for them as well, but I feel for too many pharmacy owners a day goes by, and nothing to enhance and reactivate the realationships with current and past customers is not done…they stay in this ‘average’ and feel the ‘comfort that kills’ instead of really experiencing true business growth, much above the ‘law of averages’

The federal government would have “absolute power” to shut down the Internet under the terms of a new US Senate bill being pushed by Joe Lieberman, legislation which would hand President Obama a figurative “kill switch” to seize control of the world wide web in response to a Homeland Security directive.

Lieberman has been pushing for government regulation of the Internet for years under the guise of cybersecurity, but this new bill goes even further in handing emergency powers over to the feds which could be used to silence free speech under the pretext of a national emergency.

“The legislation says that companies such as broadband providers, search engines or software firms that the US Government selects “shall immediately comply with any emergency measure or action developed” by the Department of Homeland Security. Anyone failing to comply would be fined,” reports ZDNet’s Declan McCullagh.

The 197-page bill (PDF) is entitled Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act, or PCNAA.

Technology lobbying group TechAmerica warned that the legislation created “the potential for absolute power,” while the Center for Democracy and Technology worried that the bill’s emergency powers “include authority to shut down or limit internet traffic on private systems.”

The bill has the vehement support of Senator Jay Rockefeller, who last year asked during a congressional hearing, “Would it had been better if we’d have never invented the Internet?” while fearmongering about cyber-terrorists preparing attacks.

The largest Internet-based corporations are seemingly happy with the bill, primarily because it contains language that will give them immunity from civil lawsuits and also reimburse them for any costs incurred if the Internet is shut down for a period of time.

“If there’s an “incident related to a cyber vulnerability” after the President has declared an emergency and the affected company has followed federal standards, plaintiffs’ lawyers cannot collect damages for economic harm. And if the harm is caused by an emergency order from the Feds, not only does the possibility of damages virtually disappear, but the US Treasury will even pick up the private company’s tab,” writes McCullagh.

I know I have been sending a lot of stuff at you lately, and sorry about that, but
as a valuable customer and reader, when I see something good, I just have to
share it.

I can easily say one of the biggest marketing ‘ace in the holes’ for me has been
writing advetorials. These are ad’s with an editorial tone…although with an underlying hook to get the readers addicted to your personality and information.

This is a slam dunk for quickly becoming your marketing obvious expert.

So much in fact that the other day I went to the post office in Stevensville MI, and when the lady asked me “Is there anything liquid, perishable or dangerous?”

I replied, “No and Yes, just a liquid nutrient”

Her reply…”Oh my God, it’s you….the natural Pharmacist” and gave me a high five..
She went on to tell me how much her and her co-workers miss the articles and how they used to read them together in a support group sort of way.

Now aside from making my day, BIG TIME…this made me realize the power of the written word

when it’s communicated properly.

You see, I stopped writing those articles ten months ago.

Anyhow I am now marketing for a local weight loss clinic, based on hCG in fact. And one of the things that I am doing is advertorial/article writing.

It turns out, after getting a hold of the media source (the paper in this case) they are giving me 1/4 page for 1/8 page price…since it’s an advertorial!

After hearing this, I called the media sources of the other clients I write articles for an for the hell of it, asked for a similar discount.

8 out of 10 complied!

Why? They are either seeing the tremendous value these types of articles bring in increasing readership…or they think ad’s are more valuable??????

Either case it’s a win win. And I know some of you might be thinking, “hey if you are writing articles, giving their readership information, it should be free”

Yes, if they hired me on as a staff writing and I was not allowed to promote or interject my clients personality.

You see, these types of articles do so much to create the ‘author’ as the obvious expert…increase sales, notoriety, and steal business from the competition. An article purely of editorial nature would just be the same pedantic b.s that only fills space.

Anyhow, there’s my tip. Consider ‘advertorials’, although call them ‘editorials’ to the media rep, and ask for a discount (or hire me)
